Ms. Dumlao, my CHE 01 teacher, asked our class to get a copy of the CHE Survival Tips which she had just uploaded last week. So I did her bidding and without delay read the article by Dr. Lisa G. Bullard.

At first look, the survival guide seemed like any other. I thought, I know I can handle this. I just need to straighten up!

Well, it all seemed to end this way but not until I got stuck on this simple yet meaningful quotation from the article “Impostors Everywhere” by R.M. Felder and finally had my resolve. It read:

If you’re an engineering student looking around at your classmates, the
tape goes something like this: “These people are good—they understand
all this stuff. They really belong here…but I don’t. Over the years I’ve
somehow managed to fool them all—my family, my friends, my teachers.
They all think I’m smart enough to be here, but I know better…and the
very next hard test or hard question I get in class will finally reveal me as the impostor I am.” And what would happen next is too horrible to contemplate, so at that point you just rewind and replay the tape. What
you don’t know is that almost everyone else in the class is playing the
same tape, and the student in the front row with the straight A average is playing it louder than anyone else. Furthermore, the tape is usually wrong.
If you survived your first year of engineering school, you almost certainly
have what it takes to be an engineer. Just remember all your predecessors
who had the same self-doubts you have now and did just fine. You do
belong here, and you’ll get through it just like they did. Try to relax and
enjoy the trip.

And so it is. In class, I’m always praised for getting the As but what others don’t know is the fact that I also have my own doubts. Sometimes, I become affected and conscious on meeting these expectations that I tend to forget the essence of learning. And I’m playing the tape louder and fiercer than ever. But to know that everything is natural and I’m not alone makes all the difference.

This time, I am definitely more convinced that ChE is truly for me and I’m dead serious wanting to become a chemical engineer.

I’ll make sure to shoot the As with 100% accuracy and precision!

And I’ll definitely take my time and enjoy! Haha!

I’m so loving ChE!!! :DD

I think people are misunderstanding something. No one ever wished for the hostage taking to take place. It’s true that our country, the Philippines, is in a state where she can never face the world with utmost integrity and respect because of the recent tragedy but to think that everyone thinks that the Philippines is in shame and we point the fault at others is never right. The truth is we never have control of anything. The truth is our country’s honor does not depend on how famous each Filipino becomes and how many awards each Filipino receives. The truth is it’s the good character in responding to different circumstances and situations that we give our country honor and it is our character that makes us become truly Filipinos. I hope we stop the blaming to the people involved in the hostage incident. Our police team did its best but then again no one have complete control over the situation. It’s never good to be judgmental and to gravely criticize because in the first place it’s never fair and it never resolves anything. I just pray that we all could learn something important in this sad event and that each of us respond in a manner that we become responsible. Let us look at this very sad day not with remorse but in the light, we look with understanding and hope. After all, if God let this happen then there is a valuable truth that will endure even in eternity. He let’s us know so that we could learn and that others may learn from us.
